Uploading Photos
DLCCWeb comes with 250 MB of online storage for files and images you'd like to make available on your website. Through this interface, you can upload files of various types, and you can upload images, controlling whether or not they are listed in your website's photo gallery.
To add a new upload, click on the upload link near the top of the files and photos page, supply a title and caption for your upload and then select the image you'd like to upload from your computer. If you are uploading an image to be displayed in your photo gallery, the title will display above the photo and your caption will display below. If you are uploading a file, the title will be used only as an internal reference and the caption will be ignored.
When uploading a file, you can control whether or not the photo is listed in your website's photo gallery.
- Show - if the "Show/Hide" checkbox is selected, the photo you have uploaded will display in your photo gallery
- Hide - if the "Show/Hide" checkbox is not selected, the photo you have will have a publicly accessible URL, but it will not be displayed in your photo gallery.
By default, non-image uploads do not appear in your photo gallery.
Troubleshooting
Please note: The upload URL displayed for files and images is based on your campaign website's domain name. If you are not using DLCCWeb to manage your domain name, or have not yet switched an existing domain name into DLCCWeb, your files are still uploaded, but you will need to change the base of the file URL from http://www.yourcampaignsite.com to http://dlccweb.com. For example, if the URL listed were http://janeforsenate.org/dia/organizations/5043/images/endorsements.pdf, the alternative URL would be ttp://dlccweb.com/dia/organizations/5043/images/endorsements.pdf
Placing images on your website
Images that you have uploaded can be placed into the pages of your website by either entering in the proper HTML code, or through the page editing toolbar at the top of every text area. By default, all images placed on your pages will have a white border to give them separation and distinction from the rest of the page content. If you would like to remove the border, switch into "Source" view, locate the corresponding <img> tag and add class="plain" between the start and end of the tag.
The WYSIWYG editor in DLCCWeb gives you the ability to upload and place images from your web browser. The editor also gives you the ability to scale down images in size after you've uploaded them, however this functionality should be used sparingly. High resolution images mean slower load times for your visitors, less space in your hosting account, and can lead to poor image quality when viewing the scaled-down images online. The maximum width for an image depends on your template selection, and can be anywhere from 350 pixels wide to 600 pixels wide. If at all possible, you should resize your images to the dimensions at which they'll be displayed. You can do this with desktop photo editing tools such as iPhoto, Paint or Photoshop. Or you can do it with online editing tools such as Pic Resize, Resizr or Shrink Pictures. If these online and offline tools don't work for you, try uploading the full-resolution version to your image gallery, which will save three versions of the image you can use: a thumbnail preview, a web-sized, and the original image.
